This is an alternative to the other one I wrote: I See It Now. I have a poll going in the polls board to see which song y'all think goes better. It's the same fic, but the song in this one is called "You Look So Good In Love" and it's by George Strait.
Feedback always welcomed!
Greg sat at the side. Kind of like what he was always doing. There was lively country music filtering around the room from the stage where the singers were.
Nick had insisted they all visit this little old bar, which was very like the ones he'd grown up with apparantly. They all had the next 2 days off, whether they liked it or not, thanks to contamination at the offices. Nick, Warrick and Catherine were happy about it, but Sara and Grissom were righteously pissed off.
None of them were working any cases but they were both workaholics and weren't happy unless they were...well, working.
The upbeat music changed to a decidedly softer tone and everyone on the dancefloor partnered up. Catherine grabbed Warrick's arm and Nick seemed to be having fun dancing with one of the local girls. Greg saw the uncertainty that passed across both Sara and Grissom's faces when they realized they were all-but forced together by Catherine. Yep, she was one hell of a match-maker. Subtlety wasn't one of her stronger points so she'd just pushed Sara in the general direction of their boss, her eyes too busy focusing on her own dance partner.
Greg continued to watch as Sara said something to Grissom quietly and they both laughed before he took her hand and started dancing.
Everyone was metaphorially "letting their hair down"....even Grissom. That thought alone scared Greg into keeping off the dancefloor!
As the song started properly, the chattering and laughing died out until there was just the odd mumble from the bar and all that could be heard in the run-down old honkey-tonk was the George Strait music.
Oh how you sparkle
And oh how you shine
That flush on your cheeks
Is more than the wine.
And he must do something
That I didn’t do
Whatever he’s doing
It looks good on you.
Greg sighed and looked down at his drink before his gaze fell back onto his boss and his co-worker/crush. She had a smile he'd never seen before dancing on her lips and even from the distance he was at he could see that twinkle in her eye.
He'd been chasing Sara for almost as long as she'd been chasing Grissom. Which is why she never noticed, or brushed his interest in her away, seeing him as nothing more then a friend.
You look so good in love
You want him
That’s easy to see.
You look so good in love
I wish you still wanted me.
A pang of hurt went straight to his heart. It was painfully obvious that Sara saw noone else except Grissom. And by the looks of it, he wasn't indifferent to her either.
She practically glowed on the dancefloor with his arms around her, and the smile seemed to be stuck on her lips.
He must have stolen
Some stars from the sky
And gave them to you
To wear in your eyes.
I had my chances
But I set you free
And now I wonder
Why I couldn’t see.
The song seemed to last forever as he sat and watched. Catherine and Warrick were too caught up to notice anything that was going on around them....as were Grissom and Sara. The latter pair more so. Even Nick seemed to have noticed the chemistry between his friends.
Greg could tell that Grissom and Sara weren't aware of anyone around them and he wondered if they could even hear the music. They both seemed to be dancing on air, his hands clasped behind her back and hers on his shoulders. They were both gazing into each others' eyes and Greg looked away. Too much.
